Have you ever tried to figure out what in the world your child is trying to describe to you? My son gets frustrated when you can’t understand what he is talking about! I mean I really try to just GET IT! The fact is that a child’s language is very different at times.
Gabriel is eight years old and has a different type of taste bud than most kids. He does not eat chocolate, mash potatoes, or cheese of any type. He can’t stand milk and, come to think of it, it would be easier just to make a list of things that he will eat. Most of the time when I try to get him to taste something new, I get a big fat NO! Every now and then he will say OK and after a few nibbles will finally take a bite of whatever it is that he is trying. This is usually where the fun begins. He gets that look like he is going to UP-CHUCK a pickup truck. His eyes roll back in his head and his mouth opens with a little lurch. I yell SPIT IT OUT! SPIT IT OUT! PLEASE DO NOT PUKE! So after all of the drama, and he regains control, I ask him why he did not like the food. He says “because it makes my tongue itch!” I said WHAT?” because it makes my tongue itch!” I have no idea what in the world tongue itching feels like but if it makes him feel like that….DON’T EAT THE CHOCOLATE!
