Man, where does the time go? It was just a couple of months ago that I took my first head coaching job in Little League. My son is 11 and I have helped his teams out before here and there but never been head coach. I didn’t know what to expect going in and to be honest I was quite nervous. I really didn’t want to let the boys down and I didn’t want to look like an idiot out there either. Well…I still look like an idiot…but you know what I mean! We haven’t won many games but we have had a good time.

The biggest plus for me is the time that I get to spend with my son. I also get to play baseball again every day just about. I am 42 years old and really thought that my playing days were over….NOT YET MY FRIEND!! I take my 320 pound self out there and run around on the field like I was 11 again….I can’t really stop but I can run! I catch fly balls, make perfect throws or run to the fence, hit to the boys, and pitch just about every day. What a blast it has been.

Game day comes and I am as excited as the team. I set around and pout when we get rained out. It is the coolest thing when you see one of the kids that has been having a tough year have a great game or make a big play. Twice this year the bottom of the line up has brought us back in the game with a chance to win and we pulled it out. We have about five games left but I have decided that I am coaching next year. I can’t wait until it all starts again next spring. Man what a life!!

  2. My daughter, who is 6, just had her last softball game of the season last night. I am going to miss sitting in the bleachers, rooting for my girl! I never thought I would enjoy being a sports Mom, but this season has taught me a thing or two…At times, I think I have enjoyed it more than she has!

  5. Sounds like you are a kid at heart, and that is a good thing because when we have kids we need to let our inner kid come out and play. Glad you are enjoying life, and your son.

Here’s to another season of fun… but let’s wait a little longer cuz I want to enjoy summer a bit since I am in Minnesota and we haven’t even gotten it yet. LOL
