Well, I’m finally here! I have wanted to come to the Florida Keys FOREVER!! My loving wife worked out the details and here we are. Our first stop was in Key Largo. Yes, we sang the Beach Boys song all the way into town. I knew that she had us a great place to stay….but….I never imagined how beautiful the place would be. The view was to die for.
We walked in the door and were amazed at the size of the place. As soon as we walked in the door, everyone was excited. There was a huge living room to the right that had a door that lead out to the back deck. The Water was about 20 yards away. To the left was a large kitchen with everything that you would need to keep your costs down and cook for yourself. As you walk straight ahead, there was the restroom and to the left was the bedroom with two extremely comfy beds. We felt right at home.
Cozy waterfront cottage set back a few feet from the water. The bedroom has a queen size bed and the en suite bathroom has a shower/tub combination for your bathing preference. A galley style fully equipped kitchen is situated between the bedroom and the living room has a table and chairs over- looking Florida Bay . A sofa bed and comfortable chair complete the accommodations. Both rooms have flat screen televisions.
For your outdoor dining pleasure, the cottage has a tikki hut with a table and chairs and a charcoal grill. Sleeps a maximum of four persons.
The property was very beautiful. It had a small, hidden, lovely environment. I took the kids down to the water and we got in a goofed off for a while. There was a dock that the kids went out on and scared daddy to death but they had fun. The dock was the home of some paddle boats and kayaks. We took out two of the double seat kayaks. We put the girls in one and the boys in the other….NO I DID NOT SINK THE BOAT!! So, the girls took off like they had a motor on the back of the kayak.(I know they did). Gabe and I started off okay and then ended up going in a circle and running under the dock. Yes, we went under the dock and we did recover. We finally got things together and took off like an Olympic rowing team. We were a machine, right up until we bumped into the girls. No, we didn’t knock them over. Together, we paddled around the coast line for a bit and just enjoyed being out on the water. How relaxing! I could have stayed out there all night. It was time to head back in and we took off in a race to the dock. We got a good lead and I secretly took my paddle out of the water and let Gabe do all the work…I mean have all of the glory. We got back and landed the kayaks. It was so much fun. I have always wanted to try it but the convenience is what finally got me.
We only stayed one night but felt like we belonged there. The staff were just like friendly neighbors and were very accessible and helpful during our stay. I fully recommend a stay at Bay Harbor Lodge Key Largo. We will definitely visit again in the future and hopefully stay a little longer next time.
