SLEEP! How many times do you hear people say, “I’ll get enough sleep when I am dead!”? Or,”If I can get at least four hours of sleep, I’ll be good.” What about the ones that wish that they could sleep? INSOMNIA! For some people sleeping is really easy but for others it can be a real life nightmare just to try to get to sleep. I know first hand how lack of sleep can have an impact on everyday life. Thankfully, I am not the one that suffers from insomnia. However, the love of my life does have it. I have seen my wife suffer and toss and turn for three days straight without sleep. It is hard to watch and I would not wish it on anyone. Her attention span gets shorter, her temper grows shorter, things get really emotional, and I believe that her overall health takes a beating. I have tried to help her figure out different methods to battle insomnia but it seems like everything we try either only works for a couple of days or doesn’t work at all. It has come to the point where we had to involve our physician to help with the situation.
If you think about what is happening with my wife and what she is going through, it only shows half of the problems that insomnia causes. Think about the way that it can have and effect on the people around the person suffering. I am in the bed with her when she is tossing and turning so daddy doesn’t get much sleep either. Not only, does it feel like I am on a ride at an amusement park trying to stay in the bouncing bed, but I hate it when my wife is upset. My stress level soars trying to fix the problem. Now, you have both parents with no sleep and two kids that are up and ready for action. Oh, THE HORROR!!! It is only good when everyone is on the same wave link and sleep can put us all where we need to be.
Doing a little research, I found that nearly 4 million Americans suffer from insomnia! NEARLY 4 MILLION….plus….THEIR FAMILIES! It’s not really falling asleep that is the problem in most people. It is STAYING asleep. They may fall asleep quickly and then wake up 2 hours later and not be able to go back to sleep. A pretty amazing fact is that people are missing out on about 3 full weeks of sleep a year on average. Understand this….IT IS CRITICAL…to get a full nights sleep. It is important for your mind and for your body. It is also important for the sanity of your family.
